South Africa’s Constitutional Court ruled on 6 May 2025 that the automatic loss of citizenship provision for adults acquiring another nationality was unconstitutional. The Department of Home Affairs subsequently launched a citizenship portal in November 2025. Older advice about automatic loss may no longer apply to your circumstances.
