South African birth certificates are issued by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
What is an Unabridged Birth Certificate?
A birth certificate is an official document issued by the country of birth to confirm and record the registration of a birth.
A South African unabridged birth certificate reflects the individuals full details, including full names, parental information, and the place and date of birth. An abridged birth certificate reflects limited personal details only.
What is a Vault Birth Certificate?
A vault birth certificate is a copy of the original birth registration record completed at the time the birth was first registered with the Department of Home Affairs.
Vault birth certificates are often required for applications relating to citizenship, passport matters, or where historical birth records are requested.
