What is a Foreign Birth Registration?

This is a process that allows individuals born outside their home country to register their birth. This registration is essential to establish legal recognition of the individual's birth and obtain an official birth certificate.

Application Process

• All births registered by the Department are in terms of the Births and Deaths Registration Act. There is no exclusion or separate requirements for foreign birth registrations.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Application form Notice of Birth (DHA 24)
• DHA 529 (applicant, parents duly fully completed)
• Full birth certificate of the applicant
• Marriage certificate
• Proof of birth / citizenship of the South African parent

Once your registration is approved, you will receive an official birth certificate issued by the authorities of your country of origin or citizenship. This document will serve as legal proof of your birth and may be required for various purposes, such as obtaining passports, citizenship documentation, or other legal identifications.
